Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) Ozonesondes

Wallops Island, Virginia, USA (digital record: July 1995 - present)

  • The NASA Wallops Flight Facility is the longest continuously operating ozonesonde station in the continental US (since 1970).

  • A major milestone was recently achieved with the reprocessing of the WFF ozone profiles during the digital measurement era (since 1995) to remove known biases and improve overall accuracy (See Witte et al. (2019) for more details).

  • The non-homogenized data for the pre-digital era (1970-1995) can be found at the World Ozone and Ultraviolet Radiation Data Centre (WOUDC). The digital era record (most up-to-date data) is below in SHADOZ V06 data format and the data can be found in NASA Ames format at the NDACC Data Housing Facility (DHF).

  • Other measurements taken at Wallops include daily Dobson spectrophotometer (#038) ozone vertical column density observations starting in June 1967 available at: the NDACC Data Housing Facility (DHF) and the World Ozone and Ultraviolet Radiation Data Centre (WOUDC).
