Tropospheric Studies - AERONET Support

Trajectory Images provided on this website are in support of the AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork) program and the BAMGOMAS (Back trajectories, AERONET, MODIS, GOCART, MPLNET Aerosol Synergism) project.

The trajectories are based on a kinematic trajectory analysis using NASA GMAO (Global Modeling Assimilation Office) assimulated gridded analysis data (for Jan. 1, 2000-August 30, 2007) and from NCEP (National Centers for Environmental Prediction) analyses (Aug. 31, 2007-> ).

The Trajectory Analysis runs are based on the trajectory code developed at NASA/Goddard Code 614 - The Atmospheric Chemistry and Dynamics Branch. This website and analyses are being generated and supplied by T. Kucsera

Note that not all dates within this period may be available.
Currently 7-back trajectory analyses are generated twice a day (00Z and 12Z) and two sets of images are generated:

The first set has trajectory analyses starting at four pressures levels (950 hPa, 850 hPa, 700 hPa and 500 hPa) at each of the AERONET sites - these levels correspond to altitudes of appoximately .5, 1.5, 3, and 5 kilometers, respectively.
In addition, the second set of images (see links labeled "All_Levels") contains the above 4 levels as well as 4 higher levels (400, 300, 250, and 200 hPa) - corresponding to approx. altitudes of 7, 9, 10, and 12 kilometers.

Kelowna Site Special Note: In early analyses products - The Kelowna site was incorrectly situated in China - This site is actually located in Canada.


Analyses are Available For the following Dates -
7-day Analyses starting from 2000-Jan-1 --> up to about 23 days back from today's current date.
These analyses are continually being generated on a daily basis.
